Breaking Barriers: UK-Indonesia Collaborations in Shaping Inclusive Futures

(part of the celebration of 75 Years of UK-Indonesia Diplomatic Relations and 90 Years of the British Council globally)

To commemorate International Disability Day, on December 5, 2024, the British Council Indonesia held a series of events exploring best practices in integrating inclusion through UK-Indonesia collaboration across various sectors. From formal and non-formal learning environments to innovative teaching methods and creative initiatives, this event was created as a platform to collectively explore the challenges and opportunities in creating a more accessible, safe, and supportive future for everyone. The event brought together change-makers, educators, artists, and advocates to inspire meaningful collaboration and drive real change towards a more inclusive world.

About the Session: Art to Promote Disability Empowerment

This panel discussion explores the transformative power of art in promoting inclusion and supporting disability communities. Moderated by Amanda Ariawan of Indonesia Contemporary Art & Design, the session began with a keynote where Amanda reflected on how her participation in the UNLIMITED 2024 delegation influenced her curatorial practice. Following this was a screening of the dance documentary Convergence of Grace: Uniting Worlds Through Dance and a discussion with the panelists (Imaniar Rizki, Sukri Budi Dharma, and Dibal Ranuh) led by Amanda, discussing the role of disability arts in driving cultural change.
