Editor and Contributing Writer, UNEXPECTED, Published by Indonesian Contemporary Art and Design (ICAD)
Held at GrandKemang Hotel from 10 October - 10 November 2024, the ICAD 14th edition dives into the theme of UNEXPECTED. Divided into four zones*, the exhibition takes into account the diverse understanding of this distortion and unforeseenness. At first glance, the theme may refer uniquely to unexpected events that carry a strong impact on our lived experiences. However, beyond that, it also deals with perspectives that are overlooked in the course of our history, due to the dominant and often biased narratives we are fed with.
*(1) Absurdity and fantasy as instruments to look beyond reality, history, and reason, (2) Creation in times of uncertainties and survival, (3) Attention to lesser-known narratives; indigeneity, diasporic identities, and disability, (4) Re-imagination of our relationship with nature.
As Editor and Contributing Writer of UNEXPECTED's exhibition text and catalogue, Amanda led the research and writing team, overseeing the entire process from initial research to final drafts. She provided editorial guidance throughout and conducted the final edit of all written content.
About Indonesian Contemporary Art & Design (ICAD)
Indonesian Contemporary Art & Design (ICAD) bridges art and design from interior design, product design, architecture, visual communication, with other disciplines ranging from fashion, film, hospitality, technology, F&B and more. It is the first and only platform which initiates the collaboration between these various disciplines.
Held for the first time in 2009, ICAD has become a large-scale exhibition, promoting design and contemporary art in Indonesia, as well as embracing the nation's diversity of cultural expressions. Each exhibition features multidisciplinary creatives, ranging from senior contemporary artists to young creators, collectives, or communities working in art, design, music, culture, and new materials. Their works are divided into five (5) categories: Special Appearance, In Focus, Featured, Open Submission, and Collaboration. (arturaicad.com)
