UNEXPECTED is an exhibition where artists, designers, and thinkers explore the unforeseen realities of today’s society, using imagination to propose new ways of understanding and addressing them. The exhibition delves into unexpected events that shape our experiences, while also highlighting marginalized perspectives often overlooked in history. ICAD 14's Special Appearance features visionary artist A.D. Pirous and showcases works focused on Borneo, revealing hidden narratives of the island. The In Focus section presents artists from Indonesia, Cambodia, and Thailand, examining Southeast Asian identities and politics. Altogether, UNEXPECTED challenges us to question the present and imagine what could be.
As the Lead Curator of ICAD 14: UNEXPECTED, Amanda led the curation and research, working closely with national and international participants as well as writers-researchers from diverse cultural backgrounds to foster creative exchanges across nations and disciplines. Her curatorial practice ensured a thoughtful, critical, and inclusive approach–balancing artistic vision with research-driven insights and inclusive principles–to create engaging, meaningful experiences and discourse of art and design. To achieve high impact, Amanda worked closely with the ICAD program team, alongside international partners, institutions, galleries, and cultural communities.
