Holding Up a Mirror, Malaysia Pavilion at the 58th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia
Held in 2019, the world-renowned 58th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia marks Malaysia’s first-ever National Pavilion, serving as a momentous occasion for Malaysia and Malaysian art and highlighting the development of the country’s contemporary art practices.
Malaysia's transformation has led to a renewed sense of optimism and reaffirmation of its multiracial, multi-ethnic, and multicultural nation, driven by the desire for democratic change. The overarching theme of the 58th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, May You Live in Interesting Times, explores the concept of identity within the context of political, social, and economic change. The exhibition, Holding Up a Mirror, focuses on the intersection of personal and public identities, myth and history, and national and international perspectives.
Part of the Project Team of Holding Up a Mirror, Amanda collaborated closely with the curator/project director and liaised with the artists as well as collaborating partners to ensure smooth exhibition planning and execution. She oversaw timelines, logistics, and technical coordination while supporting the translation of the artistic vision into a cohesive, research-informed presentation.
