Writer, ‘Civilization Iteration’: Introducing Xu Zhen’s First Solo Exhibition at Galerie Perrotin, review of Xu Zhen’s solo exhibition for The Artling, Singapore, 2017

Xu Zhen's Civilization Iteration was a solo exhibition held at Galerie Perrotin in Paris from May 18 to July 29, 2017. This exhibition showcased significant works from four of his series, Eternity, Evolution, Metal Language, and Under Heaven. Xu Zhen, known for founding MadeIn Company in 2009, critiques the commodification of art and the impact of digital culture on meaning and perception. The term "iteration" in the title reflects his method of achieving desired outcomes through repeated feedback, highlighting his approach to art in an increasingly globalised and networked world.

“This summer 2017, Xu Zhen is back to impress art enthusiasts in Paris with his first solo show in Galerie Perrotin. ‘Civilization Iteration.’ A total of 27 pieces of artworks varying from sculptures, paintings, and video art are presented in two galleries and their garden. Welcoming visitors to the exhibition are two intriguing sculptures, Evolution-Statue Mbole Ofika, Tatenashi Sarashiki and Evolution-Statue Mbole Ofika, Misaka Mikoto of 2016.”
